Unit Aims

This unit provides learners with an understanding of computer networking essentials and cloud
technologies, their operating principles, protocols, standards, security considerations, and
prototypes associated with this field. Learners will explore different hardware and software
options as well as how to configure and install them.
A wide range of networking technologies will be also examined including Local Area Networks
(LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN) and how they evolved to create large-scale networks.
Protocol methodologies related to IP data networks will also be explored.

Assignment Brief and Guidance

Create a handbook for the employees covering the following:

Part 1
● Summarise the historical development of cloud computing technologies.
● Evaluate cloud computing models.
● Assess cloud computing platforms.
● Differentiate client and server environments.
● Evaluate the benefits of serverless computing.

Part 2
● Describe network standards and protocols.
● Assess different network topologies.
● Evaluate the impact of different network standards.
● Identify and explain various network hardware and software available for an intranet
setup.

Delivery and Submission
The submission is in the form of a handbook written in Word format for Part 1 and 2.
Part 1 – the recommended word limit is 1250 words.
Part 2 – the recommended word limit is 1250 words.
You can include illustrations, diagrams and any other appropriate visual aids that may
enhance your handbook.
The word limit is excluding references, and appendices.
Referencing
You are expected to use relevant academic and reliable sources where appropriate, and
clearly reference these in your work.
Citations should be added to the text and placed at the end in a reference list, using the
Harvard referencing style.

● Demonstrate how to set up a secure network interface.

The submission is in the form of reports and logbooks signed by the assessor.
In addition to the reports and logbooks you can, if you wish also submit a video of the
demonstration(s) with detailed commentary.
