Essay guidance and tips:

  • Your essays must demonstrate engagement with materials, including reports from reference 1 and academic journal articles from reference 2

  • You may not need to do any additional research beyond that undertaken in your groups for Reference 1 and 2.
  • If you wish to undertake further research, focus principally on academic journal articles. You may supplement this by using other databases, e.g. Statista website, if you wish.
  • Your essay should include an introduction that expresses your argument through a clear thesis statement. Define any key term or concept, such as the Anthropocene.
  • Each body paragraph should begin with a topic sentence that links each theme to your overall argument. Support your claims with reference to examples, statistics, facts or quotes from your research.
  • Include in-text citations wherever you are referring to an example, statistic, fact or quote from your research. In-text citations and your bibliography should be in Harvard style.
  • Finish your essay with a conclusion that reiterates your thesis statement and summarises the main points of your essay.
