Preventive Health Promotion (PRVO)
There is one assignment for PRVO:
Your choice of EITHER the Food Project OR a 3-5 page paper on Spirituality and Health. Either project is worth 30% of your course grade. Both are due on Day 10.
Food Project- what to do:
Read chapter 19 in the text as well as Canada’s Food Guide. Research a recipe for an inexpensive dish within your personal culinary abilities and budget. Create this dish for Day 9. Make enough so that everyone in class can have a small sample of your dish (note it’s a SAMPLE not a MASSIVE PORTION). Also prepare a typed recipe for the dish you have made, making sure to include WHY you think this dish is healthy.
Spirituality and Health Research Paper- what to do:
Read chapters 15 to 17 of the textbook to get a general sense of the topic. Focussing in on one aspect you find interesting in the broad topic of health and spirituality, write a 3-5 page research paper explaining your specific topic. Please note this is a research paper, not a personal reflection paper. In other words, it’s not about what you may have experienced, or your personal opinions it’s about what scientists and researchers have discovered and reported in academic books, articles, magazines and so on. As a research paper it will require a bibliography. See your instructor for more help if you are uncertain how to proceed with writing a research paper.
If students have some principled objection to the topic of spirituality and health, they could write a paper on one of the following topics:
Other health topics are possible, but you must obtain your instructor’s approval for them. Please note this is a research paper, not a personal reflection paper. In other words, it’s not about what you may have experienced, or your personal opinions, it’s about what scientists and researchers have discovered and reported in academic books, articles, magazines and so on. As a research paper it will require a bibliography.
